Experience That Travels With Me

My years as an Army medic taught me to pay attention to the things people depend on. How gear carries, how quickly I can reach what I need, and whether an attachment holds under weight all matter when I use something every day.

That way of looking at gear stayed with me after the military. Working with people brought its own lessons about listening, making practical choices, and noticing the small problems that can make a long day harder.

Learning From the Miles

Carrying our bags through workdays, convention floors, airports, and unfamiliar cities has taught me things I wouldn’t learn by looking at them on a shelf.

I notice whether a pocket is easy to reach while I’m wearing the bag. How the strap feels after hours of walking. What fits when I’m packing for a trip, and what gets in the way.

Those experiences help shape the ideas I bring back to the team: how to carry weight more comfortably, where reinforcement matters, and which details could work better. My military background gives me a foundation. Using the bags for work and travel keeps teaching me.

Built Together

Modern Rugged brings that experience together with Jon and a team whose backgrounds offer different ways of seeing the same product. We carry the bags ourselves, listen to our customers, and share what we learn. That’s how we keep improving.

Traveling with Lisa, spending time with good friends, and exploring new places are part of my life, too. I want our bags to fit naturally into those days, just as they do when I’m working.

My goal is simple: help build a bag I’m happy to reach for every day, and that someone else can depend on for their own journey.

The miles keep adding up. So do the lessons.
